A standard garden hose is heavy, kinks at the worst moment and never coils back the way it came off the reel. This expandable garden hose weighs a fraction as much and sits in a small coil on its hanger. Turn the tap on and it stretches out to three times its length; turn it off and drain it, and it shrinks back down. It comes with an 8-pattern spray gun, brass tap connectors, a wall hanger and a storage bag, so it's ready to use out of the box.

How It Works

1. Water pressure expands it — inside the woven fabric cover is a stretchy latex tube. When water flows in, the tube expands and stretches the hose to around three times its empty length.
2. The nozzle holds the pressure — with the spray gun closed, pressure builds in the hose and it reaches full length.
3. It shrinks when you drain it — turn the tap off, squeeze the trigger to let the water out, and the hose contracts back to its short length.
4. Brass fittings seal the ends — the brass connectors and rubber washers stop leaks at the tap and at the nozzle.

How to Use

1. Fit the tap connector — screw the 1/2" or 3/4" brass connector onto your tap, with the rubber washer in place.
2. Attach the hose and the nozzle — connect the hose to the tap, and fit the spray gun to the other end before turning the water on. Without the nozzle it won't build enough pressure to expand fully.
3. Turn the tap on slowly — open it gradually and let the hose stretch out.
4. Choose a spray pattern — turn the nozzle head to pick one of the 8 patterns.
5. Tap off, then drain — when you're finished, turn the tap off first, then squeeze the trigger to empty the hose.
Tip: full length depends on your water pressure. On low-pressure taps, tank water or pumps, the hose may not stretch all the way.

Care and Maintenance

• Keep it out of the sun — this is the most important one. The inner tube is rated 1–35°C, and Australian summer sun on a hose lying on concrete goes well past that. Hang it in the shade or put it in its bag
• Never leave it under pressure — turn the tap off after every use. Leaving it stretched with the tap on is the main reason these hoses split
• Drain it after use — let the water out so it shrinks back and the inner tube isn't left stretched
• Don't drag it over sharp edges — rough concrete, brick corners and garden stakes can wear through the fabric cover
• Check the washers — if a connection starts dripping, reseat or replace the rubber washer
